Glossary for SCO

This glossary explains the essential terms from the SCO documentation using simple language to help anyone understand how self-checkout works.

B

Basket Screen
The screen that shows when switching from regular checkout to self-checkout mode with items already scanned. It displays all scanned items on the left side with pictures, names, prices, and descriptions, while showing the total cost on the right side. Customers can remove items or add more products before paying.

Block & Call Assistance
Settings that automatically call for help when specific situations happen during checkout, such as unknown products, high transaction amounts, customer identification problems, or payment failures. When triggered, it can show popups to customers, call for staff help, or require supervisor approval.

C

Customer Identification
A feature that lets customers identify themselves by clicking a button at the top right of the screen and entering information like phone number, email, or tax ID. Up to three different identification methods can be available. When customers identify themselves, they can access personalized services and loyalty benefits.

D

Document Delivery Method
How customers can receive their receipt after paying. Options include printing a paper receipt, receiving it by email, or choosing no receipt. Customers may be able to select multiple options depending on store configuration.

E

Enter Code Manually
A feature available on the Welcome screen and Scanning window that lets customers type in product codes when scanning doesn't work. When customers click this button, a popup appears where they can enter the product code using an on-screen keyboard.

G

Goodbye Screen
The final screen shown after completing a transaction. It appears for a set number of seconds to thank customers before automatically returning to the Welcome screen for the next customer. Customers can also click a 'Finish' button to return to the Welcome screen immediately.

P

Payment Screen
The screen where customers choose how to pay after confirming their basket. It shows available payment methods with images and allows customers to select their preferred option. Only certain payment methods configured for self-checkout will appear.

S

Self-Checkout (SCO)
A system that lets customers scan and pay for items themselves without going to a cashier. Customers can switch from regular checkout to self-checkout mode, and all transaction information is kept when switching between modes.

Supervisor Approval
When store employees need to authorize something before customers can continue. This happens for situations like high-value transactions, unknown products, or customer identification failures. The supervisor enters their credentials to approve and allow the transaction to proceed.

U

Unknown Products
Items that the system cannot identify when scanned or manually entered. Depending on store settings, this can automatically call for help, show options for customers to retry or request assistance, or simply allow customers to close the error message.

W

Welcome Screen
The first screen customers see in self-checkout mode. It greets customers and lets them start shopping by clicking anywhere on the screen. It may also have an 'Enter code manually' button for typing in product codes instead of scanning.
